All-weather RVs have become increasingly popular over the past few years. The new rugged off-road vehicle with the comforts of home on board is not your typical RV. It has been carefully engineered to carry all the gear you need on a skiing adventure, a mountain bike trip, or perhaps a leisurely day fishing by the lake.
Design: Wilderness Vans
The Canadian camper conversion specialist, Wilderness Vans, is not a very old name in the industry. In fact, it has just started building campers – from start to finish – in 2017. But, in this short period, the company has marked a few milestones. After giving us incredible van homes for eternal memories, Wilderness Vans Grid Series defines a bigger change in approach but offers the same comfortable experience on the trip.
Based on the 2021 Ford F-550, GRID series touring campers offer outstanding off-the-grid capability and comfort. Based on the duty truck chassis is a sturdy aluminum contraption that has a slide out and several identifiable compartments for your wet and dry gear.
Unlike most road-ready RVs that require you to hang the bike on the back, the Grid Series allows you to store mountain bikes inside its body. Outdoor equipment storage also ensures that wet equipment does not enter the cozy environment inside the camper, but remains safe from the elements.
In addition to a sliding compartment to accommodate bicycles inside the camper body, the Grid can store luggage, camping equipment, snowboards, skis, fishing poles, and more. The interesting scheme of things on the outside is nicely complemented on the inside by the lively living area.
Designed for off-road, off-grid adventures in the same breath, Grid has a luxury-packed interior with a queen bed and convertible seats that provide additional sleeping space. The wet bathroom on board has a hot/cold shower and composting toilet, while the galley across the bathroom (separated by a sliding door) has a sink, fridge and cooktop.
To take the occupants off the grid, the Grid is powered by a 400-W solar power system connected to a 540-Ah lithium battery. Inverter 3,000-W for pairs for additional energy needs, and water needs are taken care of by large volume water storage. This color based F-550 Blue Grid 2021 is priced at $350,000.
