Aubrey and Jon, who play Harper and Greg respectively on the hit HBO show, joined the rest of the Season 2 cast on stage as they accepted the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
And while fellow cast member F. Murray Abraham gave a powerful acceptance speech on behalf of the entire group, Aubrey could be seen in the background looking visibly angry – that is after Jon whispered something in her ear.
Since the dress featured a potentially-risqué cut-out design, some immediately assumed that Jon was warning Aubrey about a wardrobe malfunction.
And now, Jon has revealed that this is exactly what went down.
Speaking to Page Six on Monday, Jon clarified that he told Aubrey that she might “want” to mend her dress after he noticed that her under-breasts were poking out under the straps.
Regarding Aubrey’s expressive response, Jon said, “I think what she showed was why that would be a problem if my nipple is showing. That’s her sense of humor — She has that dead dry wit; that’s the funny point.”
But while all was well and good between the costars, Jon admitted he was very upset to see his exchange with Aubrey turn into a “terrible moment” after it went viral on social media – so much so that he texted her the next morning. double checked she was ok.
“You weren’t really upset?” He remembered texting Aubrey, and she replied, “No! Not at all!”
Additionally, Jon revealed that he told Aubrey to “look ahead” because she was being “blocked” by the other people on stage.
And since Aubrey was standing in the back of the group, she was very nearly elbowed at the moment when two of her costars – Meghann Fahy and Michael Imperioli – shared a huge hug at the end of Abraham’s speech.
Making her frustration very clear, Aubrey uttered “Jesus Christ” immediately after the near miss – which Jon said he thought was just “being funny”.
Reflecting that sentiment, an insider has now clarified that Aubrey’s “revealing” and “sarcastic” reaction was not meant as a shadow of her. White Lotus costs.
“There were a few different things going on at that moment,” the source said. “At first, she was told her boob was hanging out which would make any woman uncomfortable.”
Clarifying that she verbally said “Jesus Christ” as she was almost elbowed in the face, the insider continued: “Aubrey is very expressive, and she’s also very sarcastic. She is very proud of her work on White Lotus.”
